Successful purchasing in the food industry
Purchasing does not always go well. Consider the recent affair, in which a slaughterhouse from Dodewaard had to take back all the horse meat processed in 2012 and 2013 and the products that could contain horsemeat after the NVWA had found horse DNA in beef. As a result, the buyers also had to remove products from the market. Another example comes from the dairy industry. Danone saw profits decrease by five percent in 2013 after a supplier discovered a dangerous bacterium in the milk powder.
