Press release: Supply Value starts PhD research: The role of purchasing in innovations with suppliers
Jeroen Arentsen, consultant at Supply Value, starts with a PhD research regarding the role of purchasing in innovations with suppliers. The research is being carried out in collaboration with the University of Twente.
Jeroen Arentsen started in 2019 as a graduate of Supply Value and has 3 years of work experience as a procurement consultant. His research ‘Early supplier involvement in public IT procurement’ was awarded the Sourcing Nederland thesis prize. In recent years, Jeroen gained (purchasing) experience within various organizations. In addition, he has developed himself professionally by completing the Nevi 2 course.
Starting a PhD research allows Jeroen to further specialize in purchasing innovations. His research focuses on the role of purchasing in the orchestrating of innovation with suppliers. “Purchasing is increasingly shifting from an operational role to a strategic function,” says Jeroen. “More value can be created by working smartly with suppliers.”
The research is conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Holger Schiele and Dr. Frederik Vos of EL-IPS (European Lab for Innovative Purchasing and Supply) at the University of Twente. In EL-IPS, about thirty procurement researchers focus on procurement within the industrial-, public- and healthcare sectors. The collaboration with Supply Value and EL-IPS in this PhD research shows the ambition to harmonize science and practice closely.
“Smarter collaboration with (innovative) suppliers not only leads to added value for our customers at an organizational level and throughout the supply chain but also to increased societal added value,” says Menno van Drunen, CEO or Supply Value. “In addition to our traineeships, offering a paid PhD is also an important way to maintain talent like Jeroen to our organization for a longer period of time”.
