Purchasing trends 2010

Supply Value has conducted research into the most important trends in purchasing according to purchasing professionals and managers. The results of the 2010 procurement trends show that the improvement of the position of purchasing within the organization is experienced by most respondents as the most important change in the purchasing discipline of recent years. Purchasing professionals experience that purchasing within the organization gains more recognition, purchasing has come closer to management, purchasing is more involved in projects and the level of knowledge (professionalism) has increased.

In addition to improving the position of purchasing within the organization, four other important changes have been identified, namely:

  • The focus of purchasing has become strategic;
  • More is purchased through the central purchasing department;
  • Intensification of relationships with major suppliers has increased (supplier management);
  • Automation is increasingly being used.
