Gert van Beek runs the Kathmandu Urban Marathon in Nepal for 112 Nepal

One of our employees, Gert van Beek, returned from his visit to Nepal on 30 April. He would like to share his impressive experience with you.

Foundation 112 Nepal
Since the devastating earthquake in 2015, I founded Stichting 112 Nepal together with three friends. We were during the earthquake in Kathmandu and have seen everything from very close. 112 Nepal focuses on the future of Nepal and especially on children who have to survive under difficult circumstances. In the past 3 years, 112 Nepal has received over one hundred thousand euros in donations. This by organizing all kinds of activities but also by donations from the most unexpected angle. I run marathons for Nepal myself and donate 20 euros for every kilometer that I walk.

Kathmandu Urban Marathon
On April 25, the day of the earthquake three years later, I walked the Kathmandu Urban Marathon, a marathon that was also organized by 112 Nepal. The proceeds of this marathon will benefit 115 Nepal and that makes this marathon unique in the world. On 27 April, we opened a school in Dhading district, which was built on behalf of 112 Nepal and a Romanian foundation. The school was completely destroyed by the earthquake and it was very emotional for me as president of 112 Nepal to cut the ribbon. It is such a rewarding job to do something for Nepal and its inhabitants. Also a huge motivation to continue with our actions.
